What I Wish I Knew

I wish I knew that happiness is fleeting,

That a smile can change the course of your day,

And give hope when darkness sets in.

I wish I knew that life is fragile,

Like a delicate rose amongst the chaos,

It must be cherished and protected.

I wish I knew about inner strength,

That rises above the tears and sorrow,

And always hopes for better days,

I wish I knew that sadness comes in waves,

The highs and the lows

Feel endless when you're in pain.

I wish I knew that the simple things,

Will make your soul content,

And light up every star in your sky.

I wish I knew that beauty is not defined,

Perfection is an illusion,

That we create in our minds.

I wish I knew that the greatest love,

Takes place deep inside your heart,

And can heal your aching wounds,

Beyond all reason.

I wish I knew that real friends stay,

No matter what,

They never leave your side.

I wish I knew that success,

Holds less power than kindness,

And that words,

Can build a world or break it down.

I wish I knew how a beautiful

Sunrise could lift your spirit,

And allow sunset to be your guide.

I wish I knew more about life.
