Quarantine Life

Covid 19 changed everything; it changed my life,

People whom I loved died, and I couldn't say goodbye,

The stars faded in their beautiful eyes,

And their frail bodies led the way,

Yet no one could see their pain; we were all trapped inside.

I know without question that's what we had to do,

But my heart is now in pieces remembering you,

The memories invite the day to dream,

Of all the times we lived under the midnight sun,

Together embracing our families, they were always number one.

The world shut down its doors,

It couldn't take it anymore,

The cries were getting louder, and the fear grew strong,

We had to save lives; we had to stay indoors,

The hours were long; the months beat us down,

Loneliness set in, even amongst the crowds,

Our minds were overworked, tired and withdrawn,

Social life was non-existent, but it was nobody's fault,

Governments kept planning, getting it all wrong,

Time was running out, and no one could hear our pleas,

Until Captain Tom revived the spirits of the world,

And rescued those in need,

Doctors and nurses fought to save lives,

Their tears filled the corridors of life.

We all came together, for a moment we were one,

In the eyes of the storm, we made a stand,

And allowed the simple things to bring us joy,

The phone calls and text, the zoom meetups,

City sunsets and a glass of wine,

Favourite tv-shows, and old movies,

Food for comfort, how can we forget,

Family and friends who we missed like crazy,

A hug became the symbol of therapy.

Now the doors begin to open,

Slowly but surely, we can see the horizon,

Hope is shining; the flowers are rising,

For a better tomorrow,

Dear Covid, you took so much away,

But we withered your tempest with love.
