Dancing with my Shadow on a Tuesday

My body wants to be free. My mind is plagued with thoughts that weigh me down and won’t leave me alone. In the city that never sleeps, I am immersed in the noise that surrounds me. I see beauty in every corner, gazing back at me — the leaves on a tree, the quiet autumn breeze, the unpainted canvas of the sky over the sea.

I want to dance with my shadow on a Tuesday, forget that I have to get to work and make coffee for my boss. I want to dance until I can’t feel my feet. I hear the music in my ears, playing loud and clear. My legs begin to move, my arms stretched wide to the rhythm of the song. It begins with a smile, under the city sun. I’m in my own groove, dancing with my shadow in the AM.

Forget sitting at my desk, printing papers, sending emails, voice messages, texts, and phone calls. Forget the office vibe, with my run-down chair that sits alone while nobody cares. I want to be in this moment, dancing with my shadow, my loyal friend, taking in the air of life. Spontaneity is what I yearn for.

With this dance, I declare self-love and proclaim to care for the person I’ve become. I am dancing with my shadow on a Tuesday AM. I am the luckiest person in the world. This moment is mine.
