A Past So Present
I must relinquish my distant past,
For it brings me tears and sorrow,
And laughs in the face of tomorrow,
Eroding every hour, like a manic clown,
Mistaking my truth,
Imprisoning my thoughts,
Drowning my heart with regret.
I must let go of the tainted window,
That looks out to a field of tears,
Limiting my life,
Paralysing my dreams,
Like the silence of a tragic night,
The past lives in the present,
And isolates my smile,
With memories so raw,
I cannot retreat my soul,
From the unbearable pain.
This past is defined,
Carved in the blanket of time,
Like a precious stone,
That never dies,
I will forever live,
Beneath these turbulent skies.
